This 4,2 litre Mexico was delivered new in Italy in 1969. The current owner was on a visit with the Swedish Maserati club in 1976 at Viale Ciro Menotti Modena where the factory is, and in the service department was a dark blue Mexico that he took a fancy to. Signor Oscar Gnoli from Maserati informed our collector that the car was indeed for sale and the car was duly bought on the 1st of October 1976. The car drove around 300 metres before it stopped and had to be taken back for some minor work before it could be driven straight back to Sweden by the happy new owner.
He then used the car ten years before it had to be restored. The engine was done, rust fixed, it was re-painted red from the original blue, re-trimmed in the same colour and it had new petrol pumps fitted. In the 90s a new gearbox was installed and it always went through a comprehensive service every year before going to its annual trip to the International Maserati club meetings in Europe. Artcurial´s specialist Niklas Hannah used to be driven as a 15 years old boy in the backseat of this car to Maserati club events, he has been known this car from 1976 until today. A car that has been loved and cherished all its life and now, 39 years after he bought it in Modena, our collector has decided that it must find a new home, hopefully one that will appreciate it as much as he has over the years.
