Pietro Frua réalisa cette dernière carrosserie spéciale pour la Maserati Mexico. L'auto est basée sur une carrosserie de Mistral modifiée. Elle fut commandée par Franco Rol, pilote automobile qui obtint une certaine notoriété en Europe de la fin des années 30 au début des années 60. Franco contacta Frua en 1966 afin de dessiner la voiture. Après s'être accordé sur le dessin, Franco Rol demanda à Maserati d'équiper la voiture d'un V8 4.2L. Ce moteur fut légèrement préparé comparé au V8 4.2L standard de la Mexico. Le taux de compression était d'approximativement de 10:5 ou 11:1, les bielles étaient allégées et l'arbre à came plus pointu. La voiture fut livrée dans une couleur Bordeaux, un intérieur cuir beige et des inserts velour sur les sièges.

Pietro Frua drew this last special body for the Maserati Mexico. The car is based on a modified Mistral body. It was commissioned by Franco Rol, who was a moderately successful race car driver in Europe from the late 30s to early 60s, and Franco contacted Frua, in early 1966 to "pen" the car. After they settled on a design, Franco Rol then engaged Maserati to build the car with a 4.2 liter V8. The engine is slightly higher tuned than the regular Mexico 4.2 liter engine. The compression is approximatley 10.5 or 11:1, the con rods are light weight and the cam is obviously more peaked. The car was originally burgundy with tan leather and suede inserts for the seats.
